A few days later.
It was raining until dawn today, but now a rainbow hangs across the sky. I was now standing in front of my target dungeon. There is a huge hole in the mountainside. The entrance leading underground is surrounded by a geometric pattern made of stone. Of course, this wasn’t a man-made object, but naturally sprung forth from the time of the dungeon’s creation.
“…”
I scan around, but I see no one.
With popular large dungeons, there would be stalls lined up near the entrance selling potions, food, and equipment along with touts and large groups of adventurers making noise. But the place here is the opposite. In line with that, I didn’t pass anyone when I came here.
It’s a typical scene in an underpopulated dungeon.
“… Well, It’s not like it matters.”
It’s rather favorable having no rivals that are vying for the same thing. The preparations are already set. There’s nothing more to buy. With that in mind, I step into the dungeon. Passing through the entrance, I notice something written by the wall. It’s rather difficult to see in the dark, but I managed to read it by changing angles.
“The old man answered.”
“Alas. This body has wasted away, the holy sword has rusted, and the energy to use the magic arts has also dried up. However, I ▒▒▒▒▒▒ am yet ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒”
“–The Cave of the Setting Sun,”
“… Haha”
I surmise the true meaning of this text.
It appears to be the vestiges of what’s known as flavor text.
There are always a number of meaningful passages left in dungeons.
It is largely ignored once a dungeon has been cleared to a certain extent with the release of information, but it contains important clues like information about a boss’ gimmicks, data on the monsters that appear, and even location of safe zones in hidden rooms. For adventurers who want to be the first to clear the dungeon first, it’s more valuable than treasure.
It’s just that this doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Parts of it are unreadable, but it’s like just an introduction to the dungeon.
“The Cave of the Setting Sun, huh?”
It was the name of the dungeon. It also displayed its name in my status as my current location. What does it mean?
The names of the dungeons indicate what its characteristics are such as “The Great Ice Den” and “Spirit Bone Corridor” but I don’t have a clue about this one.
“Sunset… decline… waning…?”
“… I can’t figure it out.”
I still don’t know.
I stop thinking and head further in.
